Kentucky Derby

Three of Milwaukee’s finest traveled to Louisville this last weekend to take part in some of the shenanigans that surround the Kentucky Derby.

For those of who don’t know the Derby isn’t just big hats and big bets, Louisville erupts in a giant party that lasts the entire weekend. Friday night consisted of a 3am arrival to a shady parking garage where people were still playing pick up. I think there were more beers consumed then hours of sleep.

Saturday we had a derby breakfast and did what we came to do, party and play bike polo. Bourbon bourbon bourbon! The locals decided to make the finals interesting by installing paper mache horses on our bikes when we weren’t looking. There was also some sort of reverse joust to start the game. Big ups to the dudes from ATL representing the south hard, Anyone going to Savannah watch out for these ma’s they’re killers.

Rev. Phil’s Birthday Polo SEXtraveganza!

Sunday really started on Saturday, With Lodi, Boom, Dillman, and myself shoveling off the last of some straggling snow off the court

saturday shoveling

Then the word spread across the midwest! COME TO MKE! Rev. Phil from PDX and of www.bikesmut.com fame was in town showing his Bike Porn: 4PLAY. He was lucky enough to celebrate his birthday with us as well!

Which if you get a chance go see! No bike polo porns this year but maybe next year if you all are lucky!

rev. phil is in the middle with the yellow glasses

But wait isn’t that some Chicago players too! yes! and Madison took a break from protesting to drive over as well! Lefty Joe got some shithawk haircut that he wanted to show off.

We were able to play until 7:07PM before the sun was too low and it got pretty cold quickly. And what better place to go warm up but the Vietnamese Soup house, Phan’s Garden.

Cheer up Birdie!

So basically thanks to Chicago and Madison players who came to us this time. Big ups to Rev. Phil and good luck on your travels good sir! Thanks for the polo-elbow exercises!

It was a great day and I slept like a damn baby that night!

Halftime show at Brewcity Bruisers Roller Derby

Guthrie warned her in the green room he would splatter her all over the floor

First off thanks so much to Lacy DC and the Brew City Bruisers Roller Derby for having us at your hafltime show!

Our apologies for any mix up to the Beerleaders, will you come perform at our tournament in June?

It was pretty cool to play polo in front of that many people, and the general consensus after talking to the fans in the stands after the performance was “wow that’s cool” or “I’ve never seen that, it was rad!”

There was some video taken and when we can get that uploaded we’ll post it here. For now check out Dane’s pics over on the sidebar links.

Hopefully we opened some new eyes to the sport and made a few new fans!

Green and Yellow!

In my ever competitive spirit I’ve brokered a friendly wager between the Land of Beer and Cheese and the City of Steel. The Great Green Bay Packers will be taking on the wimpy Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl  XLV in just under two weeks from today.

Milwaukee Bike Polo wagers one 30 pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon should the unthinkable happen and the Steelers emerge victorious.

Pittsburgh Bike Polo wagers one case of Church Brew Beer that they should just buy right now and ship it to us so we can drink it while the Packers beat the Steelers.

In other news MBPC member Shay Linkus’  head is exploding due to his two favorite football teams competing for the Lombardi trophy.

He’s not acting like he does this all the time….

So after I made that last post I came across this photo on Facebook. It’s Dan (lovingly referred to as Drunk Dan amongst the club) and he attended the ST. Louis Bike Polo Lock-in this past weekend. 24 hours of straight pick up polo action! Well Dan had a little too much fun and passed out standing up next to the court.  Someone had the foresight to put a garbage can on the court  in case Dan let it fly. Thanks Pabst Blue Ribbon for enabling us!

Beavers Invade Boston, Winter Lockdown

Good morning beautiful people.

We’ve got a huge weekend coming up for Milwaukee Bike Polo as the World Champion Beaver Boys (Beaver Men) will be traveling to Boston to take place in the Winter Lockdown tournament. This is the first tournament the Beaver’s will be competing in as a team since our victory this summer in Berlin. Combine that with the fact that the Boston Tournmant is stacked with talent and you have the fixings for some great action.

Guthrie Neuman of the Dans Ta Gueule Puceau Syndicate will also be in Boston playing with our buddy Hugo from Paris and Charlie from Boston (see ya on the podium Guth).

Wanted to let you all know that MKE has been very fortunate with winter weather so far this year. Thanks to minimal snow we have been able to get a lot of high efficiency polo* in. Hopefully this trend will continue as it eases the pain of not having and indoor facility. Bud Selig, when you read this text me so we can discuss further the possibility of playing under the field @ Miller Park. Same goes to you Allen Bradley, the Bradley Center with a little work could suit us just fine.

* High Efficiency Polo – Polo played once a week in a fashion whereas 6-9 “A” players  (slayers) gather for an entire Sunday of world class games, thus improving the polo abilities of all involved in a timely fashion.

MKE wins Day After New Year’s Midwest Tournament

Jake, Zach, Dane, Drew, Kremin, Brian, Lodi, Joe, Meg, Chandel

January 2nd, 2011    Madison,Wisconsin

I woke up early on Sunday at Ben Hunter’s to Dillman yanking the sleeping bags I had made into a bed out from under me then an hour later the next generation came clamoring down the stairs. I told them to jump on Joe and Brian to wake them up. That continued for about 10 minutes until they got their lazy asses up.  Ben and Grace then made us some breakfast and coffee and we were out the door to the warehouse.

a present from MBPC to the Hunter's

Despite the pretty big sized cracks and dangerous things coming out from the wall there wasn’t much to complain about. We were playing polo inside in January with our oldest friends and rivals. It was a round robin style mini season with no finals bracket.  A game was two halves, 20 minutes each. Just each team playing each team once, better record wins. I’m not sure what would have happened in the case of a tied record, but it didn’t matter, MKE crew went undefeated.

Final scores

Chicago 21- Madison 12

Milwaukee 22- Minneapolis 8

Madison 11 – Minneapolis 10

Milwaukee 12- Chicago 11

Chicago 17 – Minneapolis 7 (please confirm this)

Final records

MKE 3-0

CHI 2-1

MAD 1-2

MPLS+ 0-3

Overall this was just a ton of fun and I couldnt have asked for a better way to start off the New Year!

Make sure to check out Dane’s photos if you scroll down the blog page. You’re wondering why there aren’t any of MKE in action, aren’t you? It’s cuz Dane was on the court slaying! What you can’t see in my hand in the window is an airhorn that Joe had brought and made the mistake of letting me hold while he napped

Caught ya sleeping bro!
