DIY Bike Polo Helmet

Bike polo has come to point where more players are taking an extra step to ensure their safety on the court.  Ben Shultz of Chicago Bike Polo is one of those players.  Check out his recent modification to his existing helmet using a hockey cage.  I really believe modifications and protective gear will become more popular in the coming year due to increasing personal injury and safety awareness.

Most of the polo community knows at least someone who has had close calls to the face.  Meaning they have gotten hit, but it hasn’t amounted to serious or permanent injury.  If you don’t want to be one of the unlucky players than consider this idea or something similar.

MIDWEST MAYHEM

Ben’s Cycle was buzzing today with a thick group of the best Fixed Gear Frestylin’ this side of the globe has to offer.  Litterally was mayhem at the shop today.  I’m suprised they weren’t in the warehouse jumping off the dance floor.  Tomorrow will be a whole different story.

’10 North American Hardcourt Regional Representatives

MBPC would like to extend our congrats to everyone who recently has been elected a regional rep in NAHBP.  This is a huge stepping stone for our community and an important element as we employ our newly found organization.

A big thanks goes out to Kev and Ben who have committed themselves to a tremendous amount of behind the scenes work.   I’m more than confident that 2010 will be a mile marker in hard-court bike polo, and the awareness of our sport will give us the backing that  individual clubs will use to overcome the roadblocks that many of us have encountered.

Check out www.leagueofbikepolo.com for a taste of how expansive and passionate our community really is.

www.leagueofbikepolo.com is currently down for an overhaul, but you can grab your fix at www.hardcourtbikepolo.com.

Looking back at last year’s Milwaukee Tournament

from Mr.Do on Vimeo.

Just a quick look back into last year and remembering when we successfully hosted one of the most well respected tournaments of the year.  We’re currently preparing to host another tournament this year, but we’re still in the early stages.   Be sure to look for a similar event in the future, as it’s a great spectator sport and it’ll get you cheering in no time.

I must say, I’m looking forward to 37degree weather for polo this weekend!  It’ll probably feel like spring is coming.  I hope everyone will try and get outside this weekend and enjoy the warmer weather, as much as we’re going to.

Also, be sure to check out other Mr. Do videos, he is the premire polo videographer in my opinion.

MPBC meeting with Milwaukee County Parks

It seems as though the city of Milwaukee is realizing there is a need for a dedicated bike polo court in our fine city.  MPBC is happy to announce we are again moving in a positive direction with the Milwaukee Parks dept.  We are extremely happy to be working and planning with the parks dept. in the very near future and are keeping our hopes high so we can come to an agreement while keeping both parties happy.  MBPC enjoys and loves the MKE park system just as much as the next outdoor enthusiast.  If it wasn’t for MKE parks our club would not have had the incredible success it has in recent years.  MPBC’s dedication to keeping our parks clean and safe is among the many priorities our club strives for every day as we venture outside to the local parks to play pick-up games, despite the miserable 11° weather that we experienced last Sunday.  We’ll keep you updated on our latest endeavors in searching for a new home court to play year round.
