Since the day I laid my wooden mallet to rest I have been playing off and on with this material. It can with stand the punishment of a parking garage and glides effortlessly on a smooth tennis court. UHMW is used in a million different ways From Military Body Armour to Hip Replacements check it out on Wikipedia.
So down to the concept: A light mallet that needs little to no “speed” holes, that will also last longer then your average HDPE/ABS head. Hence the step down design. You have a thick outer ring for wear and a thinner wall for saving weight.
Weighing in around 100 grams this thing is LIGHT! Compare it to other heads/material.
Red HDPE weighs 110 grams at 5 1/2”.
Fixie inc. weighs around 80 grams at 5 1/4” length, stock holes.
I’ve never weighed abs. If you have feel free to submit via comments.
If you feel the need to play with a crazy light mallet. You can drill this head out but be smart about where you place your holes and how big. To much to close and it will collapse much like any other head you’ve ever used. Dillman suggests putting your larger holes on the side rather then the top due to tripoding.
This is a prime example of over drilling. If you did this not only would the head collapse but it would also weigh the same as a paper clip. Far too light.

Not the best comparison but its the only photo I could find.
